Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs suffered a knee injury in the first half of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, with Wirfs ruled out for the rest of the game, in which Tampa Bay lost to San Francisco, 23-20.

Wirfs, 25, suffered the injury on a third-and-7 play with 5:06 to go in the second quarter as he was lining up against Nick Bosa while pass blocking. He was replaced by former 49ers offensive tackle Justin Skule, who started four games this season at right tackle after Luke Goedeke was sidelined with a concussion.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection and team captain spent time in the injury medical tent before making his way to the locker room, with the team beginning early rounds of testing. Additional testing, including an MRI, is needed to determine the severity of the injury; per NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, “Early testing indicates that Buccaneers All-Pro LT Tristan Wirfs suffered an MCL sprain. However, the team needs to conduct further testing, to determine the full extent.”
